Josh talks the highs and lows of entrepreneurship, his experience on Dragon’s Den and how to secure those all-important celebrity endorsements.

Making contacts and building relationships is key to success in the world of diplomacy as Francesca explains to Abigail in this episode. Francesca is based in the British Embassy in Washington as a Legal Counsel where she says it is a privilege to be involved in some of the most interesting issues of the day.

We’re talking all things apprenticeships in this episode featuring former student Ayrton Seabrook, who is an Undergraduate Engineer at the Highways Department at WSP. Ayrton recently hosted a sell out session at our Careers Convention on apprenticeships.

In the western world 70% of the calories we consume originate from just four crops. How can we innovate to improve environmental sustainability and also benefit human health? Join Sixth former Sam as he finds out from Dr David Willer, research fellow at Cambridge University. They discuss how behavioural levers balance with big data analysis and we learn how research creates real change on our supermarket shelves.

Relocating water voles, planning for flood risk and mapping offshore wind supplies are just some of the areas we cover in this deep dive into environmental careers. Join Sixth Former Neha as she quizzes Charles about a career in ecology and hear their views on how we can all play a part in connecting with our environment.

What do we want our local community to look like in the future? Do we want everything on demand or would we rather shop on the high street? Are multi-generational local networks of value? How accessible will electric cars become? 

Sixth Former Charles quizzes former student Tim Sansom about his role as a senior parliamentary researcher. Listen in and discover why they both think politics matters to all of us.

Anya tells us about the DofE experience and the skills that young people learn through the DofE scheme, as well as what to do if you get lost on the expedition! We discover that leadership and teamwork skills develop over time and that volunteering is one of the best ways to build your own confidence. Anya also talks about working with national agencies to provide a youth perspective into mental health and enrichment.

Welcome to Ipswich School’s celebration of Pride month. Staff from our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Group explain why it’s important to recognise Pride, how this is part of an ongoing drive to promote an inclusive culture and what events to look out for.

International Women’s Day 2022

Head Girl, Eva is joined by Connie and Angie to talk about Ipswich School’s Consciousness Club. 

Angie explains what inspired the idea of Consciousness Club during her time at Ipswich School, while Connie talks us through how the Club has since evolved. We hear about the importance of bridging the gap with Lower School pupils and what the future of the Club looks like – for example, using it for positive action like fundraising.

Charlotte and Eva explore the connections between beauty and morality, from both a psychological perspective and in the way that these tropes have been displayed in various forms of media. They look at Disney characters, politicians and pop icons using the theories of Locke and Lombroso. It’s a revealing study of how widespread the connection between beauty and morality has become.

Women are a target of victimisation within warfare, and throughout the entirety of history violence against women has been used as a tactic in war and as a tactic of revenge. Flora delves into examples of modern and ancient methods used by armies against women.

To launch Series 2 of our podcasts we’re turning the tables and quizzing some of our teachers. In this episode we ask our Head of Lower School what it’s really like to join in Year 7.

In this week’s Conversations with Ipswich School podcast – the last in the current series – we discuss how careers involve the downs as well as the ups, being brave and seeing the bigger picture. But we also talk about the moments of joy – the people we meet, the places we visit and how different experiences make work fulfilling.

Ling Stephens (OI) and Angie talk about changing the workplace, women in leadership and what the younger generation will bring. 

It’s been  wonderful hearing our Old Ipswichians and Sixth Formers reflect upon their experiences – we’ll be back next term with more podcasts.

CCF is one of our most popular activities – in this week’s Conversations with Ipswich School podcast we unpick what it means to our students. Luke and Charles discuss the life skills it develops – resourcefulness, leadership, public service – and chat about how it brings breadth to academic studies.  

We also learn about regimental life and get a  fascinating insight into Operation Rescript and the construction of NHS Nightingale.

In the fifth episode of our podcast series Conversations with Ipswich School, we talk to Old Ipswichian Paul and Sixth Former Felix about understanding people, making the most of opportunities and how careers evolve. We hear about all the activities in boarding and how living with one another helps develop people skills.

The Show Choir must go on! Welcome to the next episode of our Conversations with Ipswich School podcast which is all about music, friendships and the wonderful legacies our students leave behind. We hear from Imogen Parry who launched our much loved, student-led Show Choir and from Rosie who runs it today.

George Pinner, Team GB hockey, talks to Sixth Former Wilf about life at Ipswich School – the value of education, the support to be your best, and of course being fellow Sherringtonians. 
It all begins in Year 5, Ipswich Prep, and the start of George Pinner’s hockey career. George, now a Team GB Olympian, made his goalkeeping debut as a stand-in for the Prep B team and has never looked back.
Sharing pride of place with his numerous medals and achievements is our Victor Ludorum award which his family (and teammate Harry Martin) still talk about… .and if you’re listening Ipswich Town, then George is still available for selection.
