Ipswich School is committed to encouraging parents, pupils and staff to reduce the environmental impact of journeys to and from the School, to look at ways to reduce traffic congestion around the sites and to promote active and healthy lifestyles. To this end, buses are available from a number of destinations in order for children who live further away to be able to come to school in this way. A number of the bus routes are organised by the school: Brantham, Bury, Colchester Routes 1 and 2, Felixstowe and Woodbridge. The remainder are run by school parent groups, often in conjunction with other independent schools in the area.
At present bus services are organised from the following places to Ipswich School, picking up pupils at designated stops along the way:
- Assington / Leavenheath
- Boxford / Hadleigh
- Bury St Edmunds / Stowmarket (A14 corridor)
- Colchester / Ardleigh
- Colchester / West Bergholt
- Debenham / Fransden
- Dedham / East Bergholt
- Eight Ash Green
- Halstead / Earls Colne / Wakes Colne
- Hitcham / Bildeston and Hadleigh
- Stratford St Mary
- Weeley / Tendring
The children in the Prep are looked after inside school until the Senior School finishes at 4.15 pm and the buses are ready to leave. The time from the end of school can be used for the children to complete homework. A member of Prep staff ensures that all Prep children travelling by bus get on the correct bus.
