Changes to the board of governors at Ipswich School

The new year sees changes to the board of governors at Ipswich School.

Henry Staunton is the new Chairman of Governors, having been appointed to this role following the retirement of Karl Daniels, the previous postholder.  There are also new governors who have joined the board: Terry Baxter, CEO of Inspire Suffolk and Chris Oxborough, who is a partner at PwC LLP.

Henry Staunton is a former pupil of Ipswich School, having studied there from 1962 to 1967.  He joined the Governing Body in December 2007, and sits on the Management Committee; he has previously chaired the Ipswich School Foundation and the Development Committee.

Mr Staunton is currently Chairman of Phoenix and WH Smith, and is Chairman of the Advisory Board of Exeter University Business School. He is a chartered accountant and most recently was Vice Chairman of Legal and General until his retirement in 2013.

He said: “Having thoroughly enjoyed my time as an Ipswich School pupil, I am delighted to bring my long term interest in education to this role as Chairman of Governors.  My aim is to ensure a first class, all-round education is provided for the pupils here – there are fabulous opportunities on offer and I want to make sure these are maintained and that achievement is high across the board.”

Mr Staunton was also clear on the important role Ipswich School has to play in the local community: “Our community work is a very important part of what we do. We have some great music and sports facilities here and it is good to be able to open them up to the public, as well as offering scholarships and bursaries to young people so they can make the most of an Ipswich School education.”
