GCSE league tables 2014
Darren Ayling, Senior Deputy Head (Academic) at Ipswich School, said: “Our GCSE results for 2013 show 99.2% of our students achieved 5 A*-C grades including Maths and English, with 68.6% of all grades at A* or A. We were delighted to celebrate these results with pupils and their families, and it is therefore very disappointing that these league tables do not reflect this reality. It appears that our IGCSE English results are not included in the Department for Education tables, giving a misleading picture of our overall performance.”
At Ipswich School we teach courses which challenge our pupils and help them to develop lively and enquiring minds. Increasingly, we feel such challenge is offered by internationally recognised IGCSEs, rather than the more usual GCSE. In common with many Independent schools, we offer IGCSEs in Mathematics, English Literature and Language, and most recently in History. We are confident that this best prepares our pupils for A Level study, and as independent learners when they set off for university. It is educational choices such as these which have helped pupils to such high achievement at Ipswich School in the past and which will, no doubt, mean they continue to flourish in the future.
