Ipswich School welcomes Open Morning visitors

This Saturday (26 September) will see Ipswich School and Ipswich Prep School throw open the doors for children and their families who may be thinking of coming to the schools to study.

The Open Morning event has been extended this year, giving people more time to have a look around the facilities, meet teachers and current pupils and take part in interactive games and activities.

The Senior School in Henley Road, including the Sixth Form Centre, will be open from 10am to 2pm, whilst the Prep School in Ivry Street will be open from 10am to 1pm.

Nicholas Weaver, Ipswich School Headmaster, said: “We would encourage anyone who may be thinking about an Ipswich School education to visit our Open Morning on Saturday.  There will be plenty of exciting things to see and do, which will hopefully provide visitors with an excellent insight into the school and what we can offer girls and boys to help them reach their full potential.”

Many departments have designed things for people to have a go at to show off some of the exciting lessons Ipswich School can offer.  For example, in the Art Department there are a number of circus themed activities planned, linked to one of the still life areas set up this term.  There will be spinning plates and balloon animals, as well as the opportunity to track down an animal which will appear to have escaped from a cage in the Art Block - all will be revealed on Saturday.  There will be a maths treasure hunt, the chance to make models of molecules, details of the school’s co-curricular programme of activities and much more, along with refreshments provided by the school’s Catering Team.

The Prep School will also be running activities, and there will be a creche so that parents can leave younger children while they look around either school.  For the youngest visitors - aged 3 to 5 - there will be the chance to visit an Enchanted Forest in the Prep with tea parties, fairies and elves between 10am and 12noon - call 01473 281302 to book your session.  Head of Ipswich Prep Amanda Childs said: “Our Enchanted Forest is new this year, and will provide an exciting magical world of fairies and elves for children to enjoy with lots of activities and plenty of magic fairy dust!”

There will be plenty of opportunity for a student-led tour of classrooms, along with welcome talks from Nicholas Weaver at 10.45am and 12.15pm, and from Amanda Childs, Head of Ipswich Prep at 10.15am.

On the following Saturday (3 October) Ipswich School’s sports department will host a Sports Open Morning, where people will be able to watch Ipswich School teams in action, and see the sports facilities the school has to offer.  The morning will include a U14 netball session between 10.00am-11.30am, and a U18 and U16 girls’ hockey session between 10.00am-12.00noon, both at Ipswich School Sports Centre in Rushmere. There will also be first and second team rugby matches at the Notcutts playing field, off Henley Road, between 11.00am-12.20pm.
