Ipswich School moves to final completion of new Music School
Musicians at Ipswich School are one step closer to enjoying a new home, as a topping out ceremony for the new Music School was completed this week.
The school’s Britten Faculty of Music is due to move to a state-of-the-art new building on the Henley Road site this autumn.
This first phase of construction will see the completion of teaching and practice rooms, with a second phase due to bring a recital hall and recording studio.
Nicholas Weaver, Headmaster at Ipswich School said: “These facilities will create many more musical possibilities for our own pupils as well as the local and wider community. It is our intention for this new facility to become one of the region’s main musical hubs, attracting performers from Suffolk and beyond.
“We look forward to seeing the new centre buzzing with musical activity and the whole school community being given an opportunity to enjoy the new facilities, whatever their musical interests.”
Karl Daniels, Chairman of Governors, added: “We’re delighted to be making this investment in music which is one of the flagship activities available to pupils at Ipswich School. I believe this very fine building will serve as a wonderful facility in the local music arena.’’
Sion Parry, Director of Music, said: “We have an exciting autumn to look forward to, with the move to the new Music School, an excellent programme of top artists performing at the sixth annual Festival of Music in October, and our Chapel Choir embarking on their first American tour to New York in the half term break.”
The Ipswich School Festival of Music takes place from Thurs 1 Oct to Tues 6 Oct this autumn. The opening act are world renowned vocal ensemble The King’s Singers, with jazz vocalist Stacey Kent, the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and the Royal College of Music strings also on the line-up.
