Ipswich School Festival of Music

This annual event is in its 9th year of live music in Ipswich. Showcasing top professional acts from across musical genres, this event is on from Thursday 11 October - Tuesday 16 October.

Thursday 11 October – Jennifer Pike
Renowned for her “dazzling interpretative flair and exemplary technique” (Classic FM), violinist Jennifer Pike has taken the musical world by storm.  One of the most exciting classical musicians performing today, she was the winner of the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition in 2002, aged just 12 years old.  We look forward to welcoming Jennifer to Ipswich School at the 2018 Festival’s opening night.

Friday 12 October – Alex Mendham and his Orchestra
Alex Mendham and his Orchestra perform “the sophisticated and stylish music of the 1920’s and 30s with the modern energy and passion of their youthful years.” They epitomise Hollywood’s golden age, presenting a unique combination of dance band music and film scores from the Hollywood musical.

Saturday 13 October – Come and Sing with John Rutter
If your passion is singing, then this is the day for you! World-renowned composer and conductor of choral music John Rutter will develop your singing ability as part of a massed choir in the Great School Concert Hall.  
This is not a usual Festival of Music event, where you are the audience – this event will help you to improve your choral singing techniques because you will be performing!
10am – 4.45pm; Great School, Ivry Street.
All tickets £15,and include a sandwich lunch, refreshments and copies of the music (no concessions available). Limited spaces are available and tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis. 

Saturday 13 October - Jazz Night: Claire Martin and the David Newton Trio
Claire Martin and the Dave Newton trio will be providing the music at this year’s Jazz Night. Claire Martin OBE - Voice; David Newton - Piano; Arnie Somogyi - Bass; George Double - Drums
7.30pm – Great School, Ivry Street

Sunday 14 October - Festival Evensong
Featuring the Ipswich School Chapel Choir, the Festival Evensong provides a chance to pause and reflect.
6.30pm – Chapel. Admission free; retiring collection for charity

Monday 15 October – Gentlemen of St John’s College
The Gentlemen of St John’s College are formed from the Choral Scholars of St John’s College, Cambridge. Their versatile repertoire ranges from early sacred music, to folksongs, to more modern close-harmony singing. This concert will also feature choral groups from Ipswich School.
7.30pm – Great School, Ivry Street

Tuesday 16 October - Sam Wilson and 4-Mality
4-Mality are described as “one of the world’s most compelling and innovative percussion quartets”.  In a first for the Ipswich School Festival of Music, Old Ipswichian Sam Wilson and his group 4-Mality will finish the 2018 Festival with a bang!
