130th anniversary of the Ipswich School Combined

Combined Cadet Force

To mark the 130th anniversary of the Ipswich School Combined Cadet Force we opened our annual dinner up to Old Ipswichians.

Those who took the opportunity to come and celebrate with us varied from last year’s leavers, to Alan Wyatt and Peter Rolph who left the school in 1953.

We were also joined by ex CCF Officers representing the three services. Major Paul Hamlet represented the Army, Lt John Nicholson (Navy) and Flying Officer Gareth Jones (RAF).

In addition our guest speaker was Lt Col Bob Clayton, the longest serving Contingent Commander in the history of our CCF. He served for a total of 23 years and was awarded a meritorious award by the Lord Lieutenant in 2012 to recognise his commitment and service to the Contingent.

The evening was a very pleasant social affair. Conversation was easy and animated at times and the food excellent.  The annual awards to cadets were given out by Sqn Ldr Welbourne followed by a speech by Bob Clayton recounting some of the more interesting moments from his career.

At the end of the evening we had a group photo of those who attended.
