Annual CCF dinner and awards

Just before the Easter holidays, two CCF events took place here at school. During the Thursday afternoon activity session, there was the first of many Army versus RAF competitions.

The whole contingent competed in their flights and sections over the afternoon, taking part in an assault course, casualty race and a prisoner release scenario. All three had a physical element and were designed to get all flights and sections working as a team. On this occasion the Army came out on top, but we are hoping the RAF will up their game for the next event!

The second event was the annual CCF dinner night. The dinner’s aim is to congratulate those who have been awarded prizes and say farewell to those who are leaving us this year. Our guests were the Headmaster (Commander of the CCF) Old Ipswichians Will and Oli Bagnal, Marcus Gibson and Lt Col Clayton. The following awards were presented:

  • Bob Clayton Shield for the most promising Year 11 cadet (Army) – Cadet I Johnson
  • Backhouse Trophy for the most promising Year 11 cadet (RAF) – Cadet Ogilvie
  • Dan Milgate Shield for the most promising Year 12 Army NCO – Cpll Myers
  • RAF Paton Shield for the most promising Year 12 RAF NCO – Cpll Newland
  • Bantoft Sword for outstanding leadership, Year 13 NCOs – FS Kwatra (RAF) and Sgt Venables (Army)
  • Allen Cup for drill and deportment – LCpl Rogers (Army) and Cpl Gebhard (RAF)
  • Kitchener Cup for best shot – Cpl Douglas (Army) and Cadet Watts (RAF)

Well done to all these cadets on their success.
