Bestselling author Onjali Rauf visits Prep

On Tuesday 10 May, we were exceedingly fortunate to have the incredible Onjali Q. Rauf MBE visit the school with Snowy the Dog (from Tintin) to talk to Year 4, who are currently studying The Boy at the Back of the Class. Year 4 were able to ask Onjali many questions about her inspirations, the book, story lines, characters, how and why she became an author. They even read aloud some of their own work with her based on her first novel. She was amazed at the quality of the children’s in-depth questions and listening to their versions of her greatly loved story, which she said had never happened to her before when visiting a school!

Later we were all treated to a talk by her in assembly – INSPIRATIONAL! Hearing all about her influences from childhood, the unbelievable work she carries out with her team in the refugee camps and how this has influenced her to write her stories. It was a visit which touched the hearts of all of us and it has been truly magical to listen to the joy of the children telling me what a fabulous time they had meeting her.

We all enjoy reading her books and we cannot wait for her new one to be published in a few weeks time! A big thank you to Mrs Mee, our wonderful Prep Librarian who organised this amazing opportunity for the children.
