The last week of half term saw Chapel Choir set off for a gruelling 5-hour journey to York for their widely anticipated Chapel Choir tour.

The week proved to be a wonderful mix of singing, fun activities, and strong team bonding. From singing in the magnificent York Minster to exploring the quaint seaside town of Whitby, the week was full of excitement and memorable moments. Monday saw one of Chapel Choir’s biggest Evensong performances yet, in the esteemed York Minster. After an alleged David Beckham spotting by the choir’s director, the choir delivered a strong performance. There were some OIs in the audience and Mr Weaver
himself also made an appearance at the Evensong, which no doubt elevated morale in the choir. After the successful performance, the choir enjoyed a filling dinner at a local Italian restaurant before setting off for a late-night ghost tour around York.

Wakefield Cathedral was the choir’s next destination, where they sang for Tuesday’s Evensong. The local reverend was a fan favourite, largely due to his New Zealand accent! The following day was the choir’s day off, and they enjoyed walking around the Cod Beck Reservoir, a fantastic day out in Whitby, and a great ending to the day with bowling. Despite certain lacking performances, mostly everyone seemed to boast great results at the bowling alley.

On Thursday, Chapel Choir delivered what has been labelled their strongest performance yet at the stunning Ripon Cathedral. There was also an enjoyable visit to the York Railway Museum in the morning, although the £5 sandwiches were certainly an area of controversy…

Overall, the tour was a wonderful time for everyone involved, and it succeeded in bringing the choir together. A massive thank you to all the staff involved: Mrs Steensma for organising such a great trip, Mr Ellis- Peckham and Mr Edgar-Wilson for their great conducting, Mrs Pashby for helping during rehearsals (and her bowling skills!), Mr Millington for his enthusiastic supervision, and Lee, our bus driver.
