Christmas at Ipswich School 2018

Christmas at Ipswich School 2018 1
12th December 2018 By Ipswich School in Ipswich School General

This term, Ipswich School, Ipswich Prep School and the Lodge have been very busy with lots of  Christmas activities.

Ipswich School

Ipswich School has been running a #12DaysofChristmas countdown on social media. Follow them on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to see more.

On Thursday 13 December there is Christmas Jumper Day. Pupils wear any Christmas-themed jumper to school with uniform, donating £2 to do so. The school is running a Charity Collection this week and straight after the Christmas holidays on behalf of Suffolk Mind (a charity that works with people suffering mental health illness) and Ipswich Town Pastors (a charity that works to bring a positive influence on the streets and supports the vulnerable).

The school has asked for the following donations: small, lined notebooks, paints, colouring pens and pencils, Freddo chocolate bars and 250ml bottles of water with sports caps. Please take your donations to School Office from 10-15 December and 3-11 January.

This year School House are supporting the amazing charity, St Elizabeth Hospice, with a Christmas hamper full of delicious festive food. The school is associated with the charity as part of the Elmer’s Big Parade Suffolk, which takes place next summer. St Elizabeth Hospice supports people living with progressive and terminal illnesses, showing expert care to support them and their families throughout the remainder of their lives.

The boarders at Westwood have been fitting in a little Christmas fun at the weekends. They went to a Christmas market in Battlebridge then did a little more Christmas shopping in Colchester. Back at Westwood they baked gingerbread and decorated the tree.

In the Thursday afternoon cookery activity, pupils made festive biscuits: Nigella’s butter cookies and BBC Good Food’s Gingerbread. We wholeheartedly recommend these recipes; they are easy to follow, fun to decorate and great to eat. Why not try them out at home?

In the Junior Library there is a Christmas Reading tree, where pupils can choose a mystery library book to choose from and read in the same way as a normal library book.

Ipswich Prep School

The Prep has held lots of Christmas productions, including The Wriggly Nativity and the Year 1 and 2 Christmas play of ‘Cinderella’. The pupils sang, played, acted and performed wonderfully and have been a joy to watch. There are also Upper Prep Christmas Concerts to come.

In the Nursery, Jingle the Elf turned the home corner into an Elf’s workshop and he needed the Nursery children’s help to get the presents ready for Santa! They have been very busy decorating the tree and wrapping presents.

Tickets have been on sale for the raffle of the Mermagen Christmas Hampers. The Prep School is supporting Age UK Suffolk this academic year.  They have had lots of fundraising events over this term, and also had a competition to design a logo.

The Lodge Day Nursery

The children at the Lodge have been decorating Christmas trees and visiting Ipswich School and Prep School to see their decorations. The Discoverers and Explorers have been doing baking to send home, making snowman cupcakes. They have also made reindeer tree decorations done Christmas sponge painting and cards. The children have also been practising Jingle Bells and other songs for the concert and party.

The Adventurers have been making Christmas tree biscuits, painting and doing a Tree Hunt around the school. Both rooms have also been out into town to see the lights. They will also be having Christmas dinner, complete with crackers!

We could not do all these events and activities without the excellent support of our staff and parents. Thank you for all your help. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
