Doughnut sales help raise over £1200

Selling doughnuts to pupils and staff at break time has helped three pupils to raise over £1200 for British Ukrainian Aid.

Cara P from Year 11 enlisted the help of her two friends Gracie J and Heidi M with the aim of fundraising in response to the ongoing crisis in the country. Cara said: “We thought how we could do our bit to help, and it was a great opportunity for a great cause. I’d seen someone selling doughnuts elsewhere and thought it was a good idea – after all, who doesn’t love a doughnut?”

Cara and her family organised the doughnuts which the three friends sold on Fridays at break over four weeks, as well as persuading other family members to donate. Cara explained that they had also received a donation from Sainsburys Hadleigh Road to help the cause and also a donation from a member of the public in Tesco who was behind her mum in the checkout queue when she was buying the doughnuts to sell.

In total the three pupils raised £1251 for the charity and said they were “quite proud” of what they had achieved. Mrs Cura, Senior Deputy Head (Pastoral), said: “It is wonderful to see our pupils getting together and organising fundraising in this way – they are such a positive example of what young people can do to help others. We are so proud of them!”

When the conflict in Ukraine happened, extra money was raised from a non-uniform day to support the Red Cross as well as the termly charity which has been Suffolk Rape Crisis. Along with donations after drama performances and at the Careers Convention, the school has been able to donate over £1500 to the Red Cross. Pupils also filled over 200 shoeboxes for Ukraine, which were delivered to GeeWizz in Bury St Edmunds to be sent to the country.

We will report on the final fundraising totals after the Easter holidays.
