GCSE performance tables 2015

Tom Allen, Deputy Head (Academic) at Ipswich School, said: “Our GCSE results for 2014 showed that 100% of our students achieved 5 A*-C grades including Maths and English, an increase on last year.  Over 65% of all GCSE grades were at A* or A, and one third at A* grade.  We were delighted to celebrate these results with pupils and their families, and it is therefore very disappointing that these league tables do not reflect this reality. As with last year, it appears that our IGCSE English results are not included in the Department for Education tables published today, giving a misleading picture of our overall performance.”

He added: “At Ipswich School we teach courses which challenge our pupils and help them to develop lively and enquiring minds. Increasingly, we feel such challenge is offered by internationally recognised IGCSEs, rather than the more usual GCSE.  In common with many independent schools, we offer IGCSEs in Mathematics, English Literature and Language, and most recently in History. Our IGCSEs are set by highly respected exam boards: Edexcel and Cambridge International Examinations. We are confident that these exams best prepare our pupils for A Level study, and as independent learners when they set off for university. It is educational choices such as these which have helped pupils to such high achievement at Ipswich School in the past and which will, no doubt, mean they continue to flourish in the future.”
