Our 1st XI were the first girls’ school cricket team to play at Lord’s – the home of cricket – and be crowned national U18 100 ball champions in a triumph over Bradfield College.
This is the third national title for the team, after they won both the U17 and U18 T20 titles in 2023. There is one final match for the team this term – the national T20 finals on Wednesday.
MATCH REPORT FROM PETRA T, 1ST XI CAPTAIN
Walking through the long room and onto the pitch at Lord’s was daunting but exciting as we headed out to field first, having won the toss against Bradfield College.
We started strongly keeping the run rate below the number of balls, creating pressure and leading to a breakthrough in their opening partnership. We then capitalised and took quick succession of wickets keeping our tight bowling lines and leaving Bradfield 117/5 after their 100 balls.
Our batting innings started with an opening partnership of 44 backed up by further clever batting and quick singles by the middle order. Each of us that stepped into the crease knew our job and what we were aiming for and this was invaluable for the penultimate ball when we needed 3 off 2 which was achieved in magnificent style.
The thrilling finish and victory was made even better with the small but mighty Ipswich support present and the knowledge that it was very much a team victory with each player executing their roles perfectly.
