Guest speakers for business studies

On the 21st of September, Miss Woodmansey’s business classes were enthralled by a talk by Mark Lowe and Karen Horsup from Midwich Group PLC. Midwich is the UK’s leading distributor of technology solutions, from projectors for
schools to the LED display screens at sports events and shopping centres.

During the presentation, we were able to bring to life our learning in the classroom as Mark explained what the business does, as well as the way in which Mark slowly worked his way up the business ladder. Mark explained the
external influences that affected businesses through 2020 and 2021, from Brexit to the Suez Canal crisis.

We learnt that Midwich offers a wide range of financial services and solutions which they offer to smaller suppliers who are fitting equipment into schools, businesses and into public sector contracts. By offering a supplier-to-door service, Midwich offers product fitting, site visitation, helpful customer service and a wide range of other services to reduce the threat of competition in the market. Instead of just selling technology, they are selling a service with a great customer experience.

As Year 13 students, we were able to link our learning of cash flow forecasting, motivation techniques, operations and marketing to the talk which has added value to our Business A Level experience.
