Ipswich School GCSE Pupils on Cloud 9
Almost 22% of GCSE exams at Ipswich School were awarded the very top new grade of 9 this summer, which, added to the legacy A* subjects means that over a quarter of all exams gained the top grade possible, heading up another great set of results from the school’s Year 11 pupils.
There were also particularly strong results for sciences and maths, with 93 students studying three separate science subjects and 1 in 3 of these exams receiving the new grade 9, while in maths, over three-quarters of pupils achieved 9-7 grades or equivalent. In humanities subjects, three-quarters of exams were graded 7 or above, or equivalent, and there were similarly strong results in performing arts subjects and languages.
Headmaster Nicholas Weaver said: “We are very proud of these results, particularly the number of grade 9s which were awarded, and the breadth of subjects in which our pupils excelled. This year sees us equal the highest percentage of exams at grade 4 or above, or equivalent, since I became Headmaster here, and I would like to congratulate all our pupils on their hard work in these more demanding GCSE exams. They have done very well in giving themselves an excellent foundation at GCSE level to go on to further study and, ultimately, to the universities of their choice.”
Twenty-eight students achieved all their exams at 9-7 and A*-A grades. Particular successes were Matthew Ludwig and Zoe Kwatra, who each achieved the top marks of either grade 9 or A* in all their ten GCSE subjects; and those pupils with an average GCSE point score of 8 or more, including Lucy Baker, Julian Chan, Jack Dyble, Tilly Griffin, James Legrand, Matthew McCormack, Vinesh Mistry, Charlotte Pettitt, Abby Phillips, Joseph Reed, Nick Rix-Perez, Rahul Sagu, Rohan Sagu, Jerome Scoote, Hannah Smith, Issy Taylor-Jones, Bertie Titley, Isaac Weaver and Maria Wilson.
