Local artist, Juliet Lockhart, visits Year 2
Based on our History topic, The Fire of London, the children made ‘fiery’ masks, painted a fabric street map and added felt pictures to it. They had to pay particular attention to the style and fashions of the period, drawing the rickety houses carefully and ensuring people were dressed in period clothing.
The children worked together to plait ‘hot’ colours from fabric. When everything was completed, the masks and plaits were displayed in our Outdoor area. The map is a fabulous interactive learning tool, as the pictures can be moved and this gives a wealth of role play and learning opportunities. The children enjoyed the experience and every child learned new techniques. What a fabulous way to discover history!
