More Chinese New Year celebrations

As part of the school’s Chinese New Year celebrations, the library has made a wishing tree – a traditional part of the festive period. In the library upon entering you can see the many tags already hanging on the tree, bearing wishes from pupils and staff, with the red and gold being symbolic of wealth and prosperity. Tangerines are also placed at the bottom of the tree as they are believed to be a symbol of good luck and happiness. There is a wishing tree in the main library and one in the junior library and customary chunlians on some doorways around school. Thanks to the library team for creating these wishing trees. If you would like to put a wish on the tree then feel free to do so until the end of the celebration later this week.

We had a lovely Chinese New Year last week in the boarding house. Mrs Christie decorated the boarding house with lanterns and fai chun. The sign on the left means well being and the sign on the right means
prosperous. On Friday afternoon, Mrs Christie also invited some of the boarders to write some calligraphy to celebrate and make wishes with others. For example, “KUNG HEI FAT CHOY” means wishing you to become rich in the coming year; “SANG TAI KIN HONG” wishing you to be healthy. Finally, we had hotpot night on Sunday night, everybody really enjoyed it. Would you like to try it in the future?
