On Wednesday 26 June there will be an art exhibition and music concert here at school, to raise money for bursaries for Ukrainian students as part of our Giving Day appeal.
The art exhibition includes artwork by Ipswich School staff, including paintings by Ms Shevchenko and Rev, and photography by Mr Bartrum, as well as paintings by local professional artists. All of the art has been donated by the artists to be sold to raise funds for the charity appeal.
All of the paintings and photography will range in price from £30 to £1300 for larger paintings. There will also be t-shirts for sale at the exhibition, with original artwork from Ukrainian artists, that are priced at £10. The art preview is from 5.30-6pm in Little School and will be followed by an hour-long concert, starting at 6pm in Great School. After the concert, visitors will be able to enjoy some refreshments and purchase their favourite art.
The programme for this year’s concert follows on from the two previous charity concerts and will feature former and current pupils as well as staff. Zoe Todd (soprano) and Kay Dawson (French Horn) will start the evening, and will be followed by Ipswich School’s senior strings performing the first movement of Mendelssohn’s Octet. The Chamber Orchestra will then be joined by former student, Sebastian Williams, performing Haydn’s cello concerto. The Wolsey Consort will be joined by another OI, Alfred Hopkins, for the premiere of his setting of Psalm 23. They will also sing a setting of a prayer by the Ukrainian composer, Stetsenko. The evening will conclude with a performance of Mark Knopfler’s ‘Brothers in Arms’ given by Mr Weaver.
Mrs Williams, Assistant Director of Music and one of the event organisers said: “It promises to be a lovely occasion, so please do come and support us as we endeavour to raise money for this important cause.”
Everyone is welcome, and there is a £10 entrance fee for adults and a £5 fee for under 18s, payable on the night or in advance online: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/ipswich-school/music-and-art-for-ukraine/e-zljypj.
