Two Ipswich School boys’ hockey teams are crowned county champions

Two of Ipswich School’s youngest hockey teams have been crowned Suffolk county champions recently – one for the seventeenth year!

The U11 team from the Prep School were unbeaten in their tournament at Framlingham College, winning five matches and drawing one. This helped them secure the title for the second time in three years.

The U13 boys overcame six other schools to pick up the county hockey trophy for their age group.  This title made it Ipswich School’s seventeenth U13 county title out of 23 since the tournament started in 1994.

The U11s scored 18 goals in the tournament, conceding just two, whilst the U13s scored 20 goals and conceded just one.

Stu Field, Director of Sport at Ipswich School, said: “Both teams can rightly be proud of their success in the county championships – it is the end result of a lot of hard work by the pupils and their coaches.  Many of our Senior School hockey players started the game in the Prep School, and we can clearly see this as a foundation for future success.”

Bill Williams, Director of Sport at Ipswich Prep School added: “I am delighted for all the boys who have trained so hard for these important matches.  Both squads showed excellent team spirit and a real passion to win.  Well done!”
