U15 girls are national cricket runners-up

On Tuesday, the Girls Junior First XI Cricket team travelled to Merchant Taylor’s School in Northwood to participate in the national 100 ball cricket finals.

The team played Wellington College in the first game. Winning the toss and choosing to bowl saw the bowling attack perform as they had throughout the competition. Wellington College were bowled out for 55 with Evie Y, Izzy G and Georgie H taking two wickets apiece, but the standout performer was Lilia C who returned amazing figures of 19 balls, 5 runs for 4 wickets. In the second innings, we chased down Wellington’s total in 59 balls, eventually winning by 6 wickets.

This win set up a final match-up with Repton. Once again, we elected to back our bowling unit and field first. Tight bowling managed to restrict Repton to 108/8 in their 100 balls. Credit must go to Sophie H, for taking 3 wickets in the final, a spell that saw her crowned player of the final. A fantastic achievement for the youngest member of the side.

We went out to bat knowing that we had to be positive from the start. Sophie L epitomised this positivity with 15 off 8 balls to put us on the front foot. However, despite our best efforts to keep the momentum, we lost a string of wickets at key moments, eventually falling 30 runs short. This loss saw us finish second in the country and left us with a real determination to go one better next year.
