Year 6 History Talk - The History of Ipswich by David Kindred
For most of David’s career he was a staff photographer with the East Anglian Daily Times and Evening Star based in Ipswich.
David is the author of several books of photographs from his collection of vintage images and he bought a sample of these in for the children to see. They ranged from Victorian Cornhill, to the Tower Ramparts area of the town and the expansion of the dock area. The children were very surprised to find out that the site of the Prep we know today and surrounding area were actually an army barracks and Anglesea Heights was the old hospital not Heath Road.
David also brought in a collection of different cameras that would have been used to take these photos. In Victorian times, one photo could have taken up 15 minutes to take, just a little slower than a camera phone!
