Year 6 practise their culinary skills

Over the course of the Lent Term, for Food Technology project, Year 6 has learned how to bake scones, sampled plain ones, and considered new and different ingredients that might be added to make delicious savoury or low-sugar scones. Working collaboratively in groups of two or three, they baked and tried out their new and flavoursome scones during their Design & Technology lessons before adjusting their recipes.

The final recipes were sent to Mrs Symons, expert scone-maker who sells around 40 scones a day at her own tea shop, the Old Store Tea Rooms at Tuddenham. From around two dozen recipes, Mrs Symons selected her favourites. These were ‘Apple, Honey and Greek Yoghurt’, the culinary creation of Flynn, Harry and George; ‘Blueberry, Strawberry and Ginger’ by Alfie, James and Ollie and ‘Breakfast Buffet’ by Niamh, Rose and Jessica.

Mrs Symons’ overall favourite recipe and the one she hopes to try at The Old Stores was the recipe by Gabriel and Daniel, ‘Worcester Sauce, Onions and Cheese’. She said that cheese scones are always a winner at the tea shop, served with onion relish, and these might just hit the spot with her customers! Well done and thank you to Mrs Symons and to all our fabulous young bakers.
