Teacher of Spanish, full-time or part-time

Closing Date: 21/03/2019
Interview Date: 25/03/2019

This vacancy has arisen due to a current teacher moving back to Spain for family reasons, and we welcome applications seeking both full-time and part-time (greater than 0.6) roles.

We are looking to appoint a teacher who can offer Spanish to A Level and university entrance.

The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic classroom practitioner, committed to interactive and engaging teaching styles, who can demonstrate an ability to inspire pupils with a love of Spanish, and achieve excellent levels of pupil progress.

You would also be expected to contribute to the Department’s cultural events and trips to Spain. Please can you make it clear in your application whether you are seeking a full-time or part-time position.

The Modern Languages Department is housed in a suite of bright and modern classrooms that include a fully equipped digital Language Laboratory, and it is well resourced. Each classroom is equipped with an interactive whiteboard, mini-whiteboards and networked listening materials. All pupils in all years have a textbook of their own for the year.

The Department has an annual Spanish Cultural Day for Year 7, a theatre trip for Years 9 and 10, a biennial trip to Spain for Middle School pupils, and a Sixth Form Spanish Language-learning trip.

Ipswich School values Modern Languages very highly, and is proud of our ongoing successes against a difficult national picture. All pupils entering Year 7 have a free choice between beginning Spanish or French, which they will continue to study throughout Years 8 and 9 as well - typically, we have a roughly 50:50 split between the two languages. At the start of Year 9 all pupils have the opportunity to take a further Modern Language, German or Russian: typically 75% of pupils choose to do so. All pupils study at least one language to GCSE, and a considerable proportion takes both languages that they have studied in Year 9. At GCSE and A Level, we follow the Edexcel specifications, and have renewed our resources to match this. In recent years the school has also attracted pupils from elsewhere into the Sixth Form to study A Level Spanish. The Department sends a healthy number of students on to language study at university every year, including, for most of the last ten years, to Oxbridge.

Spanish is thriving at Ipswich School and we welcome an engaging, enthusiastic teacher to make a strong contribution to this popular subject.

An application form and full job description can be downloaded using the links above.
