Past Events

The OI Club has run many varied and interesting reunions and events.

Sporting events, which always include a strong social element, cover fives, cricket, tennis, golf, cross-country and rounders, and include the spring Sports Festival with hockey, football, netball and table tennis. The 2013 Sports Festival was the first occasion on which the School’s new Rushmere Sports Centre was in use.

Reunions are primarily social occasions, usually designed to bring together those who left the School during a particular period, or OIs working or studying in a particular geographic location.  In addition to reunions in Ipswich, recent get-togethers have been held in Bristol, Edinburgh and Cambridge, while the London-based “Drinks in the City” (held 2-3 times a year) is always well supported.

Overseas reunions have taken place in places as far apart as Dubai, Hong Kong and Novgorod to name just three.

A recent reunion included paintballing, whilst another was run in conjunction with the Ipswich School Music Festival. The annual Diamond Lunch for OIs who left over 55 years ago, and the Speech Day Reunion for those who left between 50 and 55 years ago, are always popular.

Two black-tie dinners with an invited speaker take place each year.  The London Dinner is always held at a prestigious venue, in April, and the Ipswich Dinner (to which partners of OIs are invited) shortly before Christmas, in Great School. The form and theme of the annual President’s Event is chosen by that year’s club president; in 2012 a dinner and auction of promises were held in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association, while in 2013 the event was a musical concert celebrating the 200th anniversary of OI Philip de Vere Broke’s capture of the USS Chesapeake in the War of 1812.
