Not every OI is able to keep abreast of news of friends and acquaintances by attending reunions and other OI Club events. However much they would enjoy being there, professional and family commitments, or simply their geographical location, often make their attendance impossible.
With these people particularly in mind, we reserve a large section of the annual OI Journal for news submitted by OI Club members, some of whom include reflections on their time at Ipswich School and the impact it had on their future careers.  All news of OIs is good to read.

Members submitting news for the 2013 Journal ranged from Andrew Benton OBE, captain of a Royal Navy helicopter carrier guarding the Olympic and Paralympic Games, to Benja Hedley, a member of the GBR Ski Team; from Chris Snelling, recently retired as Director of Finance at CSV (Community Service Volunteers) to Ilya Mishchenko and Vasiliy Golovatskiy, who work together in the EGO Translating Company, Russia’s leading language service provider.

Tom Nash’s news included his memories of 1950s school lunches, while Geoff Knights recalled entering the Prep in September 1939, the year that war was declared. “I was hastily equipped with the long-trousered Eton suit necessary for Sunday Chapel, complete with Eton Collar,” he wrote.

Inevitably, news of births, marriages and deaths are regular features, as are some very moving obituaries. The 2013 Journal carried tributes from friends of Ben St Joseph, who tragically died in a chance rock fall while climbing Ben Nevis in January that year.

Please send us your news, or even news of other OIs with whom you’ve had recent contact. Emails, ideally with good definition photos attached, should be addressed to the OI Journal editor, Clare Lock, at
