Design Technology Technician

Permanent, Part-time, 35 hours per week during School term times plus some days in the school holidays.

Required from April 2026.

The School

Founded during the fourteenth century, Ipswich School is one of the foremost independent schools in East Anglia. It has circa 1,000 pupils aged between 3 months and 19 and is co-educational throughout. The most recent Inspection of the Senior School rated it as Excellent in all categories, a judgement of which we are very proud. The School operates a 5-day week, with representative sports played during the week and on Saturdays. This post is based in the Senior School.

The Role

The post is based at the Senior School where there are some 780 pupils aged between 11
and 18 years, and is ideally due to start as soon as possible.

The DT Technician reports directly to the Head of Design Technology and assists the four experienced, specialist DT teaching staff, working in an attractive Design Technology Centre on two floors. The DT will enable the workshop to operate efficiently by ensuring that it is a well-organised, safe environment with appropriate materials and equipment.

The primary responsibilities are to:

  • provide technical support and advice to staff and students in the DT department.
  • prepare tools, equipment and materials for lessons and displays.
  • undertake a practical health and safety role for the department.

You must be organised, proactive and practically-minded, with experience in the safe handling of tools and workshop machinery. Experience working in a school environment and a strong understanding of health and safety legislation are a plus, as are strong IT skills.

The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator and a confident team player who enjoys helping students and takes pride in their progress.
