Sixth Form Courses
Three or Four Subjects?
At Ipswich Sixth Form, students normally start Year 12 studying four A Level subjects, which usually reduces to three in Year 13. Starting with four subjects provides flexibility, allowing students to explore their options and refine their choices once they experience the demands and content of each course.
- Most students drop one subject at the end of Year 12, but some, particularly in science and mathematics, continue with four A Levels through Year 13.
- In exceptional cases, the most able students may even take five A Levels.
- Pupils also have the option to take an extended BTEC Sport & Exercise Science alongside one A Level.
This approach ensures that every student finds the right combination of subjects to suit their interests, strengths, and future ambitions.
