Upper Prep (Years 3–6)
The Upper Prep has its own purpose-built building, complete with specialist teaching rooms and spacious, well-equipped form rooms.
Here, children continue to flourish with growing independence, while still enjoying the strong pastoral support that runs throughout the Prep School.
A Balance of Continuity and Specialism
In Years 3 and 4, much of the curriculum is taught by the Form Teacher, ensuring continuity and personal care.
Alongside this, pupils benefit from specialist teaching, including:
- Music: Professional musicians lead lessons, including the opportunity for every Year 3 pupil to learn a stringed instrument.
- Science: Lessons are brought to life in a dedicated laboratory, encouraging curiosity, investigation, and hands-on learning.
- Languages: Inspiring learning in German, Latin and Classics, Spanish, and French, helping pupils develop confidence and cultural awareness.
- Art and DT: Creative and practical lessons that encourage imagination and problem-solving, using a wide range of materials, tools, and techniques.
- Games, PE and Swimming: A broad and inclusive sports programme that promotes teamwork, physical fitness, and enjoyment, with regular swimming lessons to build water confidence.
Creativity, Innovation, and STEAM
Upper Prep pupils enjoy access to specialist Art and DT spaces, supporting engineering, robotics, and STEAM projects.
Technology resources include:
- 25 stand-alone computers
- Suites of iPads and Chromebooks
- iPods
- 3D printers

Coding clubs and robotics challenges encourage pupils to take their learning further, develop creativity, and embrace a growth mindset.
“I like that we get to try so many things.”

Developing Confidence and Independence
As children progress through Upper Prep, they begin to move between classrooms and experience lessons with different specialists.
This prepares them for the pattern of study in Senior School, fostering confidence, independence, and self-motivation.
Pastoral Care and Personal Growth
The form teacher remains responsible for each child’s wellbeing, ensuring that academic progress goes hand in hand with personal development.
The combination of nurture, challenge, and encouragement enables every pupil to thrive.
