Athletic Development Placement
Required for the 2026-27 academic year (01 September 2026- 02 July 2027)
We are seeking a proactive Undergraduate Placement student to join our high-performance Athletic Development Department. This role offers an opportunity to gain clinical and field based experience within a nationally ranked sporting environment. You should be a team player, have excellent communication skills and be flexible in your approach and willing to take on other duties as required. You will be able to prioritise your workload and to differentiate between tasks that are important and those that are urgent.
For the past 2 years, Ipswich School has been ranked in the top 20 schools for sport in the UK by School Sport Magazine. Particular highlights including; Cricket- current Girls National U18 runners up and T20 semi-finalists in the Hundred; Rugby- ranked 4th in the UK for the 2025-26 season; Hockey- Tier 1 for both Girls and Boys, 2025 U19 ISHC National Champions; Netball- U19 regional finals 2025 and 2026.

Our Facilities are outstanding and include a hockey, netball and tennis centre at Rushmere, 4 astroturf pitches, extensive playing field for rugby, cricket and athletics at Notcutts, an out 1st XI Cricket Square at main school, which has hosted first class games and is home to two annual Suffolk 1st team fixtures. We also have two sports halls, one on site and one at Rushmere, two indoor cricket lanes, an indoor swimming pool and a new strength and conditioning suite with the latest software. Principle responsibilities
- Assist with the delivery of the Athletic Development programme for the Senior School. that reflects the age and physical development of the pupils.
- Work alongside sports coaches to assist with the delivery of training sessions for the desired sport.
- Lead and assist with the design and delivery of pitch based S&C sessions in games sessions.
- Assist with the tracking of growth and maturation data for all senior school sports scholars.
- Assist with the physical profiling of 11+, 13+ and 16+ scholarship days, collating and feeding back information to the Director of Sport.
- Assist with programme design and reporting on our training platform, Teambuildr.
- Undertake a targeting and systemic personal development programme facilitated by the Head of Athletic Development.
- Support obtaining UKSCA accreditation can be given.
Placement arrangements
This is an unpaid opportunity for one academic year, aimed at undergraduate students who require a placement to gain practical experience relating to their university course. Your placement hours in school each week during term time (35 weeks per year) will depend on the requirements of your degree course, but may include supporting Saturday fixtures. If you are unable to commute from home or university, there may the possibility to live on-site and work as part of our Boarding team alongside this placement.
