Student Success Stories
The 2018 A Level results show that 100 percent of students at Ipswich School passed their exams in 22 different subjects, with 26 students achieving at least 3 A grades in their A Levels. Over three-quarters of all exams were graded A*-B, and a similar proportion of students achieved at least one A grade.
In addition, one in eight pupils took four or more A Levels. Ipswich School Headmaster Nicholas Weaver commented: “At Ipswich School we are proud of our commitment to offer pupils a broad education, where they are able to study a range of A Levels, keeping the option of studying four subjects to the highest level. Alongside our life skills curriculum – The Edge – we believe this equips young people with the breadth and ambition to succeed at university and in the world of work.”
Mr Weaver added: “Once again we are delighted by the A Level results, which are the end product of months of hard work by our students and their teachers. They have risen to the harder challenge and high expectations in the new A Levels and we are very proud of their success.”
Six students achieved 3 or more A* grades in their exams. Joseph Brierly, who gained A* grades in Economics, History, Maths and Further Maths, will be studying Economics and Management at Oxford University; Daisy Gemmel, who achieved A* grades in Art, Economics and Geography, will be studying Geography at Cambridge University; Harrison Cole, who gained A* grades in History, English Literature and Music, will be studying Music at Cambridge University; Olivia Lyle, who achieved A* grades in Spanish, Russian and Maths, will be studying Spanish and Russian at Bristol University; Clark Huang, who gained five A* grades, will be studying Natural Sciences at Cambridge University and Nancy Shen who gained A* grades in Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths and A grades in DT and Physics, will be studying Engineering at Cambridge.
Other students with A* and A grades include: Karl Ayling, who achieved 2 A* and an A grade and is going to study Psychology at Nottingham Univeristy; Harrison Rogers, who achieved 2 A*, an A and a B grade and is going to study History at Exeter University; Abby Henderson, who achieved 2 A* and an A grade and is going to study English at Birmingham University; Max Gillott, who achieved 2 A* and an A grade and is going to study Aerospace Engineering at Bristol University; Finn Carrington, who achieved 2 A* and a B grade and is going to study Sports Science at Newcastle University; Maddie Wagland, who achieved 2 A* and a B grade and is going to study Art and Design at Leeds University; Jamie Goodwyn, who achieved an A* and 2 A grades and is going to study Economics at Durham University; Lizzie Head, who achieved 2 A* and a C grade and is going to study Geography at Nottingham University and Oliver Giles who achieved an A* and 2 A grades and is studying Law at Queen Mary London.
