Astronomy lecture

Tuesday 24 January saw the Physics department travelling up to Cambridge for another evening lecture with a jam packed minibus of excited Sixth Form students. The title of the lecture seemed to change on a weekly basis, however we knew it was going to be something cosmological.

The lecturer was Dr Matt Bothwell from Cambridge University’s Institute of Astronomy. He took us on a journey from steady-state, to an ever accelerating universe. The implications of the evidence reveal that we live at a unique moment in time where we can see lots of the stars, and yet the distant future is much more boring. Dr Bothwell handled the questions at the end very well and left us all better informed but somehow feeling much smaller.

Mr Arthur, Head of Physics
