Ipswich School Boarding shortlisted for award

Ipswich School Boarding has been shortlisted for the International Student Experience Award in the Independent Schools of the Year 2021. The nomination considered the preparation provided for first time boarders, the exceptional level of support for learning in English, and the ongoing approach to sharing all our cultures and traditions.

We know that for our youngest boarders, arriving in a new country can be a scary experience so we hold online meetings as soon as places are offered. We make it easy for families to get in touch frequently, and at any stage, and this year created a new post of International Student Liaison Officer to make this as seamless as possible.

We build an exceptional level of English as an Additional Language (EAL) support into our students’ timetables and  make learning English as fun and integrated as possible. It is available for all our overseas boarders, and is highly tailored to meet their different needs.

Weekends are fun and relaxed with lots on offer, including a very popular Saturday brunch.  We run lots of trips so our students can experience culture, arts and the local countryside and seaside. Food as a community experience is vital – students love the hot-pot nights but also the pizza takeaway evenings, and have developed a love of a ‘full English’ thanks to Chef Mo’s Saturday Brunch!

Congratulations to all our boarding staff who have created such positive experiences for the students and thank you to our wonderful boarders for making this such a friendly and engaging community.
