Year 13 Students Deliver Exceptional Academic Lecture at Ipswich School

Year 13 students Lucia and Abigail impressed staff and fellow students alike with their insightful and thought-provoking lecture, ‘Why do natural disasters have a disproportionate impact on women?’, which marked the fourth event of this year’s prestigious Academic Lecture series at Ipswich School.

The girls tackled a complex and harrowing subject, demonstrating an outstanding depth of knowledge and analytical skills. Their ability to discuss such a difficult topic with clarity and empathy captivated the audience, and their presentation skills were described as “putting politicians to shame” by one of the attending staff.

The event took place in the school’s historic library, with a full turnout of engaged students and supportive teachers. Lucia and Abigail’s engaging delivery kept the audience captivated throughout the talk, which left attendees reflecting on the important themes discussed.

Mr Crompton-Batterby remarked, “It’s inspiring to see such young minds tackle such complex issues with both rigor and compassion. The future looks bright for these two – who knows, we might see them as a UN Peace spokesperson and Meteorologist expert on TV in the next decade!”

The Academic Lecture series at Ipswich School is a longstanding tradition, with six talks held annually, each offering students the opportunity to explore and share their research on a variety of thought-provoking topics.

The next lecture in the series will take place on Monday 31st March, featuring a talk on “The development of the concept of gender in Modern Foreign Languages” by Madeleine Weaver & Mo Frankland. The school invites everyone to join and continue supporting the exceptional academic talent of its students.
