Cross Country

The OI cross country match has been a sporting fixture for decades. More recently, other teams have joined the annual competition.

This has been a successful fixture between the school and an OI team at Finn Valley, usually in March-April. The fixture often doubles as a school fixture against RHS, Gresham and Norwich School, there have also been Friends of Ipswich School teams and individuals taking part too.

Many OIs have participated in the OI cross country fixture in recent years. The OI team has been very successful, with a winning average of over 90%. The competition is good, but the fixture works because it also offers a chance for people to meet up, have a run and then some social time as well. After a shower, there is always a meal and a drink, or two, at School. There have been years when the reminiscences have continued into the evening!

Some OIs will remember wading through the River Finn, with water up to their chest, or running across the plough. Those days have gone, and the course has changed and is probably a little easier than those now. It is, however, still the Finn Valley, and it is still a challenge! OIs who feel they have unfinished business should consider running.

Regular runners are of all ages. Many are about 50 and really should know better! The team also comprises fast and younger OIs. Hugh Bain was a regular runner but has decided, in his 70s, to call it a day.

If you wish to run please join us. You are welcome to bring along a friend or partner as well.
