Benefit from an all-round education
We also think it is important that you get an all-round education while you are in the Sixth Form at Ipswich School. With exams always on the horizon, and ever greater competition for places at top universities and in the work place, we believe that Sixth Formers – more than ever – need an education that extends beyond the classroom.
Whether you simply need to relax and switch off, whether you want to develop an interest that may serve you well in the future, or pursue something which you have a passion for, or if you just want to have a go at something completely different, our co-curricular programme has something to offer.
There is first class music, drama and sport and we have a long tradition in successfully nurturing talent through to the very highest level. Indeed, four of our former pupils represented England in women’s and men’s hockey at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, where they achieved bronze medals.
At the Ipswich School Sports Centre at Rushmere we have one of the best facilities of its kind in the country, with three astroturf hockey pitches and six netball courts.
Our music has been recognised as among the very best when it became the Britten Faculty of Music, with a purpose built Music School to match. Our drama is simply great with a number of different performances each year, including a big musical every other year.
We have a large Combined Cadet Force and offer a vast array of activities every Thursday afternoon when academic lessons are put aside throughout the whole school. You can choose from activities including yoga, strength and conditioning, assisting in local primary schools, journalism, Foodshare and many more.
“There are some amazing co-curricular activities. So far, I have been to see CERN in Geneva and a solar eclipse in America. These have really expanded my knowledge of real-life applications of Physics learned at A Level.” Neha, Year 12
