Sixth Form Centre’s work space for students

Ipswich School’s Sixth Form Centre is a separate building on the Henley Road campus, and has recently been refurbished.

The downstairs area in the centre has been transformed into a colourful and bright lounge, with sofas which were especially made for the area by local craftsman Nick Bourne, and a modern café space described by Sixth Formers as “light and simplistic”.

Meanwhile upstairs, as requested by students, the work space has been extended and updated. There is an IT suite, and three workrooms, which enable students to carry out group work tasks more effectively

At morning break, students run their own popular tuck shop from the centre, and a piano has recently been added to the foyer area.

Mrs Austin, Head of Sixth Form, and Mr Calver, Deputy Head of Sixth Form, have offices in the centre, so they are accessible to students for support and advice.

“I like the teacher relationship – there’s a camaraderie but with boundaries, and it creates such a nice atmosphere in the classroom.”
