Shoppers in the Buttermarket Shopping Centre in Ipswich were entertained by the Ipswich School Big Band as they spent their money last week. The band played a short concert at lunchtime featuring popular big band pieces, launching the annual Festival of Music to passers-by.
Director of Music Mrs Steensma told the Occasional: “It was lovely to see some school parents and families there supporting us, and the public stood to enjoy the fantastic sounds played by our pupils. I spoke to some of the people who really loved it!”
This Friday, 4 October, sees a full day of music in Great School. At lunchtime, a full-house of primary school children will be captivated by the professional musicians playing live blues and boogie – the first time some of these children will have seen a live band. This will be followed after school by workshops for saxophonists, guitarists, vocalists and members of the Big Band with the professional who will the be performing in the concert in the evening.
Mrs Steensma added: “It promises to be an exciting and energetic evening of music, featuring some of the country’s top jazz and blues musicians.” Tickets are priced at £20 (£8 for students) and can be bought on the night or online: www.ticketsource.co.uk/ipswich-school
