Careers Convention introduces job and university choices

On Thursday 23 March, Ipswich School held the annual Careers Convention, where different employers and universities hosted exhibition stands and held seminars providing valuable information about possible future careers for students.

Around 250-300 students and parents attended the evening. As well as seminars that explored in more depth possible careers to students and parents, there was a great turn out for the university and job information stalls where you could be sure to find an expert volunteer ready to talk to you about, for example, pathology, accountancy or maybe Newcastle University.

Mrs Hayes said a particular highlight of the evening was the seminar by two Old Ipswichians, Ayrton Seabrook and Tekle Berihu, about Degree Apprenticeships and the New Dining Hall was left with standing room only as they explained more about this exciting and relatively new opportunity.

The Neuroscience seminar was particularly informative, with the speaker informing us that if you are looking to further your understanding of your area of study and advance science for those to come, then PhDs are excellent. He provided his own account of the various ways in which they were using magnets and ultrasound to manipulate brains and discussed in depth the process and life of a research scientist, including how he had been at Uni for 10 years!

Overall the talks were excellent and highly recommended. Thank you to the parents and students who attended, the OIs, employers and universities for delivering our seminars and the information stands and a particular thank you to the Estates Team for their hard work on the day, Mr Sadler and the Marketing Team for their help in organisation, as well as Mrs Hayes herself, who masterminded the event.
