Cumbria 2021 – bows, ghylls and centurions

Once again the indomitable Cumbria trip pupils’ spirit could not be crushed by everything the weather threw at us today.

Another day of mastering archery, problem solving and a trip to the ghylls.  Weather meant that the ghylls trip involved scrambling up rather than down – persevering through howling winds and torrential rain to get to stand in a waterfall with a majestic view of Derwent Water. Some very impressive teamwork and bravery were in evidence.

Canoeing was a firm favourite for many- with bravery, gymnast balancing skills and even a cold dip for a few! The climbing wall tested the groups again with Aidan displaying plenty of tenacity and energy.

The other forms enjoyed Roman Day- learning about life as a roman soldier at Hadrian’s Wall, followed by a trip to the wall itself and culminating with an enlightening tour around the archaeological site of Vindolanda.
