In geography lessons this term, Year 7s have been studying tectonic hazards. They have been looking at the causes of these hazards, the effects they have on countries of varying levels of development and evaluating the management strategies that some countries have used to reduce the impacts. Some creative Year 7 pupils have been designing and producing some amazing volcano models.
We have seen beautifully painted strato-volcanoes, spectacular paper mache landscapes, forested cones that produce actual smoke and even edible mountains with magma chambers of molten chocolate and digestive biscuit volcanic bombs (the teachers insisted on tasting those – only for authenticity reasons!) There were extra marks for those that labelled the main features or used natural, sustainable materials.
These models show a fantastic level of hard work and resourcefulness, in addition to great enthusiasm for the topic. An excellent effort from all those involved.
