Ipswich School has been named one of the top twenty schools nationally for its sports programme by this month’s School Sport Magazine, for the second year running. In addition Ipswich School is the only school in Suffolk to be named within the magazine’s top 100.
Last month, NextGen named Ipswich School’s rugby programme in their Global Top 20 Schools for 2023 – the first time in which Ipswich School has featured in the rankings, which only included three English schools alongside schools from Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa and Wales.
In 2023, Ipswich School enjoyed another year of sports success in the four focus sports of cricket, hockey, netball and rugby. This included being national champions for girls’ cricket at U17 and U18 level, and reaching national finals for indoor hockey for both the U18 boys and U16 girls – achieving third place in both competitions.
In outdoor hockey, the school’s U14 girls reached the national finals and the U18 boys reached the national quarter finals. The U16 and U18 netball teams reached the regional finals in their cup competitions, whilst in rugby there were great cup runs for the U15 and U18 boys.
Nicholas Weaver, Ipswich School Headmaster, said: “Congratulations to our pupils and staff on this outstanding achievement. Our sports programme at Ipswich School is designed to cater for every pupil, whilst giving elite opportunities for our top athletes. I am delighted that we have been recognised with this accolade which highlights the strength and breadth of our sports provision. Well done to all our pupils and staff for their ambition, determination and support for one another.”
