Sixth Form

With top quality teaching, learning and extensive, interesting and relevant enrichment along with co-curricular programmes, we feel that Ipswich School Sixth Formers are well-placed to get into a good university and have the flexibility that will prove invaluable in the rapidly evolving world of work.

University applications

We know just how important your university applications are and we spend a great deal of time helping you to get them right. We focus on early preparation of subject choices and personal statements, and on-going support from tutors, Heads of Houses, subject specialists and a fine careers team. We help you to prepare for interviews and arrange for former students to share their knowledge and expertise.

All students have access to Unifrog, a complete destinations program where you can research multiple subjects and courses, and compare universities both within the UK and overseas. You can discover where scholarships are offered and find details of companies offering degree apprenticeships.

There are numerous lunchtime clubs available for you to join and enhance your knowledge of chosen areas including MedSoc, StemSoc and the Model House of Commons.

We are here to support you throughout the entire application process, right up to the moment that results are known and we hope that many of you will choose to keep in touch and update us on your success.

Our results speak for themselves: In total, 22 students achieved 3 or more A* grades and 10 of these students achieved 4 or more A* grades in 2021. Four pupils go on to Oxbridge, and four have places to study medicine. Popular university locations include Leeds University, Durham University and the University of Manchester.

Alternative career routes

We completely understand that not everyone wants to go to university and we make it a priority to ensure that every student is supported whether they would like help with finding a degree apprenticeship or want to plan a GAP year, we are always available to offer advice and guidance.

We encourage all of our students to keep in touch and the Old Ipswichian Club provides networking and social opportunities along with the chance to continue sports, often playing again at school venues.

Throughout your Sixth Form experience it is our aim to equip you with all of the key skills you need to flourish and prosper at Ipswich School and beyond. We want your time in Sixth Form to be interesting, varied and above all enjoyable. We are here to help you to  achieve your very best and have an understanding of the important part you can play in contributing to the wider community.
