Celebrating World Book Day

As most of you know, last Thursday was World Book Day and we were able to celebrate the joys of books and reading. Our pupils baked some amazing book-themed cakes for the Bookish Bake Off which were sold in the library at lunchtime to raise funds for our charities of the term. But before they were sold, they were judged on looks and taste by members of our lovely Catering Team.

Although all the cakes looked incredible, the one that stuck out to the caterers the most was the Snow Queen themed cake by Anastasia M, Year 7. The caterers tried a small slice of each delicious cake and made the tough decision to award the yummiest to the lemon-flavoured Around the World in 80 Days cake (completed with a hot air balloon) by Callum B in Year 8. Well done to these two brilliant bakers! All of these cakes were sliced ready for people to buy at lunchtime and sold out within 15 minutes! The one that sold out the fastest was the Journey to the Centre of the Earth cake, which looked like a volcano, by our very own librarian, Mrs Steward. Yum!

Thank you to all the lovely students for baking a cake to bring in and make sure to take part in next year’s Bookish Bake Off. We raised just under £100 for charity too. We also asked around the school to find out what people’s favourite books are. Mr Clark’s all time favourite is Big Six by Arthur Ransome, Mrs Halford-Thompson’s favourite book is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and Mr Hunt’s chosen book is Sharpe’s Waterloo by Bernard Cornwell.

We also asked our lovely friend Zara M and she said her all time favourite book is It Ends With Us by her favourite author, Colleen Hoover.
