Lecture rockets into space

Monday 27 November saw the advent of one of the best lectures in the series so far. Thanks to Mrs Catchpole, Emily H from Year 13 was dressed in a rather snazzy spacesuit which she wore throughout the entirety of the presentation. Perhaps due to the snazziness of the spacesuit, Emily was filled with confidence and presented as eloquently as a master orator.

The lecture posed questions about the ethics of the USA/USSR Space Race – from the cost of the programme to the animal and human sacrifices which were made. My personal favourite part of the lecture was when she discussed the Nedelin Catastrophe and other fatal disasters on the route to putting mankind into space, as I had only ever heard of the Apollo and Soyuz tragedies before.

Paul B, Year 13
