Apache helicopter lands on School Field

On Thursday 30 November, Ipswich School had a visit from a Boeing AH-64 Apache flown by Lieutenant Colonel Harris and Captain Nash from the Army Air Corps at Wattisham. Since it was Lieutenant Colonel Harris’ last flight, he wanted to come to Ipswich School to speak to those in the CCF about the aircraft and joining the army.

Many pupils and staff gathered to watch as the helicopter flew in and out over the school and Christchurch Park, whilst the CCF cadets enjoyed the chance to find out more about the Apache and what experience it takes to fly one.

Also known as the “flying tank” due to its sheer amount of armament and armour.
Precision weapon systems are used which have a range from 8 km with a pin point accuracy.
An all-weather aircraft, the Apache can fly in all conditions such as the desert and even at night.
Cannons are a vital part of the precision weapons system.
Helicopters are considered the most difficult aircraft to fly in.
Each pilot in the cockpit (there’s two) must undergo lots of training, which can take up to five years to become fully qualified to the point of being on the frontline.
