Just before half term, two teams from Years 7, 8 and 9 went to Norfolk for this year’s National Reading Champions Quiz for the East of England.
The quiz was hosted by Mr Dilly, who joined the bustling atmosphere in the room via Teams, and there were also some famous authors competing which excited everyone. Mr Dilly, as we soon discovered, is multitalented. Not only did he read the questions fabulously but there was also some ‘virtuoso’ harmonica playing between rounds! The quiz boasted a variety of different questions challenging us in all aspects from anagrams to deciphering clues and gap fills.
The answers were read out every two rounds and the anticipation was tantalising! After a very challenging
round five, we went for a much needed drink and biscuit before returning only to have our spirits dropped further after another even more tricky round.
However something must have gone right as Team A – Penny D, Emma C, Samuel B-W and Alex B – finished a very well deserved fifth and Team B – Harriet B, Elsie C, Owen P and Sophie McG came third out of 25 teams! All in all it was a very successful and fun day so a big thank you to Mrs Steward and Ms Caston for taking the time to organise it.
