Commemorative book from Ipswich School for the Coronation

Over the past few weeks, each one of our students and staff would have been asked to sign a mysterious piece of paper, which we can now reveal has been turned into a commemorative book to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III.

This book will be sent to His Majesty in honour of his coronation this Saturday. The book was carefully planned out by Mrs Gills, the Headmaster’s Personal Assistant, who we spoke to about the process behind creating this masterpiece. The book has a number of features which complement the King’s interest in ecology.

First of all, the pages of the book were made out of eco-friendly paper. Then the cover was constructed using hand-made paper which was created by our wonderful Art Teacher and Chaplain, Rev Crompton Battersby. This paper includes foliage from our beautiful school grounds which was pressed into the design, further adding to the environmental essence. Finally the book was bound by a local craftsman, Matt Pilling from Owl Bookbinding, who carefully constructed the design of the book.

The words “From Ipswich School on the occasion of the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III” have been embedded into the linen spine, via a specially designed metal press. This work of art is stored inside a navy blue and gold box, adorned in velvet and linen, resembling our school colours.

The book is being delivered to His Majesty this week, along with an invitation to come and visit our school. We are so grateful to our Headmaster for commissioning such a prestigious book, which we also have a copy of for the school archives. Thank you Mr Weaver and everyone else involved.
