Winners revealed for summer art competition

During the summer holidays, the Art Department challenged pupils to create an artwork in any medium that explores the environmental issues facing our planet.

The students looked at landscapes, people, animals, nature, activities and still life. It could have been a painting, drawing, photographs, textiles, a sculpture, a print, digital art or anything else that fitted the theme.

A number of artists were given to the students for inspiration including Jill Pelto, Agnes Denes, Otobong Nkanga, Carolyn Saxby, Kerry Souter, Janae Hamilton, Grayson Perry, Mel Chin and Chen Zhen.

All these artists used different techniques and methods within their work and would have been very interesting influences for the students to look at.

All entries were incredible and thank you to everyone who got involved. The winner was Sasha T from Year 9, with Sarah L, Sophie McG and Emma K, all from Year 8, as runners-up.

Kate S and Bella E-N, Year 11
